It belongs to the family Lamiaceae and grows throughout North America, Asia, and Europe. Peppermint was first cultivated in England. In the British herbal pharmacopeia, it is described as a remedy for intestinal colic, gas, cold, morning sickness, and menstruation pain. The plant is cultivated for its oil. It is extracted from the Natural plant of Peppermint (Mentha piperita) through the method of steam distillation. The Peppermint plant (Mentha piperita) is a hybrid obtained from spearmint (M. Spicata) and watermint (M. Aquatica).
