Holy basil - Botanical Name: Ocimum tenuiflorum
Basil Essential Oil, known as Sweet Basil Essential Oil, is derived from the leaves of the Ocimum basilicum botanical, better known as the Basil herb.
What is Holy Basil? It is an Indian Plant, generally used traditionally in the system of Indian medicine, called Ayurveda.
Due to its peppery taste, sometimes Holy basil is called "hot basil". Holy basil is thought to decrease anxiety, stress, diabetes, high cholesterol, swelling & pain. Also, it helps lower blood sugar in people who are suffering from diabetes. It acts as an antioxidant.

Basil Oil - How to take:
It can be applied directly to the skin after combining with a carrier oil (such as jojoba, sweet almond, or avocado), or added to baths. To inhale, first, take a few drops and sprinkle the oil onto a fresh cloth through the use of an aromatherapy vaporizer or diffuser.
Basil oil - When to use:
Sweet Basil Essential Oil is alleged to relieve cramps, joint pain, muscular aches, spasms, gout, flatulence, exhaustion, and minor skin irritations. Basil Oil protects against infection, reduces water retention, stabilizes irregular menstruation, and enhances immune function also.
Food - How to Use Basil:
1- Put leaves onto pizza.
2- Have thinly sliced leaves either after finishing the pasta with pasta
3- Blend it into sauces.
4- Puree it into soups.
5- To add to a salad, chop it and use it.
6- Use it to garnish avocado toast.

Side Effects:
When you are going to consume food, you should know that the oil of Basil is safe. However, when it is taken directly by mouth, possibly unsafe as basil herbs and basil oils contain Estragole chemical which may cause liver cancer.
It is likely to be unsafe when it is applied to the skin in concentrations of up to 6% for 12 weeks,
Precautions and Warnings:
1- Pregnancy & breastfeeding: though basil oil is likely safe in food, however, larger amounts possibly can be unsafe as it contains chemicals such as Estragole which is harmful.
2- Basil oils & extracts may slow blood clotting which results in an increase in the risk of bleeding with a bleeding disorder or during surgical procedures. It is advised; to stop using basil at least 2 weeks before the scheduled surgery.
3- Low Blood Pressure may lower the blood pressure.
